Exam Format
How the Exam Works
The CR and CRA examinations are computer-delivered, proctored assessments. They are designed to measure practical knowledge and applied competency — not rote memorization. The exam is mandatory for certification; there is no waiver, grandfathering, or experience substitution.
CRA Exam
100 multiple-choice questions, 2.5-hour time limit, proctored. Passing score: 72%. Includes scenario-based items requiring application of knowledge to realistic recruiting situations.
CR Exam
150 multiple-choice questions, 3.5-hour time limit, proctored. Passing score: 75%. Includes advanced scenario-based items reflecting the complexity expected of experienced professionals.
Exam Security
All candidates sign a confidentiality agreement. Questions are randomized, and the item bank is refreshed by a minimum of 30% every cycle to maintain exam integrity.
Proctoring
Examinations are administered at authorized testing centers and via remote proctoring. Details will be published prior to exam launch.
Retake Policy
Candidates who do not pass may retake the examination. Retake waiting periods and fees will be published in the Candidate Handbook.

CR Recertification
CRA Recertification
Detailed recertification requirements, approved activity categories, and the recertification application process will be published in the ABCR Recertification Handbook prior to the first certification cycle.
